An MCC, or Merchant Category Code, is a four-digit number assigned by payment processors like MasterCard and Visa to classify a business based on the type of goods or services it provides. Happen Bank uses MCCs to determine how to categorize transactions for reward purposes. A specific merchant or some of the items sold by the merchant may appear to fall within an Eligible Category; however, the merchant's overall MCC may not fall within the Eligible Category, causing the transactions to not be eligible. Qualified purchase determinations are based on the MCC that Happen Bank receives in connection with a particular transaction.
